UNCONVENTIONAL MUSIC WEBSITE, REQUEST-A-SONG.COM, RELEASES ITS FIRST CD

RALEIGH, NC, (July 29th, 2003) -- Request-A-Song.com (RAS) announced today the release of their first full-length audio CD, "Best Of Request - Vol. 1." The seventy-two minute release is filled with twenty-four of the site's best songs from its first six months in business. Each song has been professionally re-mastered especially for the CD release, and each CD comes with a 16-page color booklet with song information and lyrics. The CD is being made available for sale directly from the Request-A-Song.com website (http://www.request-a-song.com) today.

Request-A-Song.com has quickly gained recognition on the Internet for its novel approach to writing and publishing new music. Request-A-Song songwriters write and record new, original songs based on website visitor suggestions. Most of the music is piano- or guitar-based pop rock with a decidedly quirky twist.

Visitors to the website submit song "requests" consisting of suggested song titles or other interesting phrases. The RAS songwriters then read the requests, and if one appeals to them, they will write and record a song based on the request, then publish it on the site for free in MP3 format. The resulting songs usually turn out more interesting than anticipated, as the songwriters try to take an unexpected angle on the ideas they receive.

"We like to continuously challenge our skills at creating new music," says RAS creator and head songwriter Benj Edwards, "We did it before the site started, but the Internet has simply let us take it to a much larger level, and has allowed us to reach a global audience with music whose distribution was formerly confined to the tiny room I call my studio."

Request-A-Song.com has been running since October 1st, 2002, and has published 64 songs so far, with a release rate of about 6-8 new songs a month. RAS has been featured on Billboard.com, and one of Edwards' songs, "The Evil Toucan Sam," has been played numerous times on the "Dr. Demento" radio show. RAS recently acquired the domain name "requestasong.com" (note lack of hyphens), so the site can alternately be accessed through that address (http://www.requestasong.com).
