Yes; this request is a little moldy (It's originally from 01/07/2004, no comments from requester). This recording sat unfinished on my digital workstation for well over a year until I recently listened to it with fresh ears and liked what I heard. To make a short story even shorter, I added a bunch of stuff to give it a fuller sound, and released it as you hear here. It's about a man's epic physical struggle against a tree. I also have a strange little story to go along with this song. While the title was a request from someone (who wishes to remain anonymous), the song is also inspired by real life experience. I was in the woods behind my house one day when I was about ten years old. Apparently I was pretty full of pent-up aggression and stress, because I took it out on a small tree, about 12 feet tall (the trunk was probably about 3" in diameter at its thickest). It was an epic struggle: a ten year-old boy verses a ten year-old maple tree, to the death. After about two hours of wrestling, I succeeded in ripping it completely out of the ground, roots and all. I was so proud of my triumph that I carried the tree up to my parents' house and my dad took a picture of me holding it up victoriously as if I had just won a great battle. These days, I feel kinda bad about uprooting an innocent tree like that, but what can I say -- it's probably a better way to relieve adolescent stress than smashing car windshields and spray-painting graffiti on old ladies. --Benj

Hey, look at me; / I've been fighting against a tree. / Hey, gather 'round. / I've been pulling it out the ground. / What could be so wrong with it? -- Its branches came together. / What could be so wrong with it? -- They clamped around my face. / Why should you not agree with it? / It's leaves have shed and messed up the place...the place. / Hey, look at me; / I've been fighting against a tree. / Hey, look at you; / You've been fighting against it too. / What could be so wrong with it? -- Its branches came together. / What could be so wrong with it? -- They punched me in the chest. / Why should you not agree with it? / I think I'll stop and spare you the rest...the rest. / Fighting a Tree. / Fighting a Tree. / Fighting a Tree. / ighting a Tree.
